We had a successful virtual meet this year, amidst the COVID pandemic. It was well received, and had more than 150 simultaneous views at any given time. Thank you for making this a resounding success and tuning in from home. Here is the recording of the event on YouTube
AKMA-UK 2020 - CANCELLED due to Covid-19 crisis Dear friends, Greetings from the AKMA executive committee during these extraordinary times! The coronavirus (COVID 19) pandemic has taken over our lives for the past few months. Although things are now returning to a ‘new normal’, all of us would agree that we are not out of the woods yet. The government advice is clear; it is vital to stay alert, limit social contact and avoid large gatherings and we are not sure how things would pan out in the next three months. For this reason, and with a heavy heart and deep regret, we have made the difficult decision to cancel this year’s AKMA meet. We need 2-3 months to organise the programme/catering etc and clearly we are running out of time. The AKMA event has been a much loved and anticipated annual family get-together for a weekend of comradery and celebration, running successfully for almost two decades. While it's disappointing that we have had to cancel this year’s main function, watch thisspace for some announcements in coming weeks!
Hope we can have a gala event in 2021!
Best wishes AKMA executive committee
AKMA-UK Best Western Plus Moat House 2019 Another weekend of festivities and companionship on 11,12 October 2019. It has become the norm to start the celebrations on the Friday evening. The inevitable beef fry-accompanied whisky trail, the tradition that first started in Stoke several years ago, continued, Music, dance, good food and lots of fun with late night escapades from a few of the most fun-loving AKMAites😊 We had another RCP accredited CME event as part of the alumni meet. Three eminent speakers provided well-received talks on three current and universally relevant topics. Main event lived up to expectations. AGM, followed by the inauguration by our regular American patron. The programme rocked, the music and dance off the scale, literally.
The planning for next year has begun, friends... Dates in your diary please...
We had an exciting weekend of fun, frolic and learning in the second weekend of October 2018.... Once again, this year the fun started on Friday evening. Our in house talents showing their skills; ‘spirituality’ as prevalent as ever; a surprise samba, jive and waltz lesson making even the ones with ‘two left-feet’ into twinkle toes 😊. For the first time in our history, we had an RCP accredited CME event as part of the alumni meet. Three eminent speakers provided well-received talks on three clinically relevant topics. The main event lived up to the expectations. We had our staunch overseas ‘members’ joining us as usual. 1984 batch mates visiting the UK from all over the world joined us, adding to the novelty. Singing and dancing was non-stop, until late.
It was a great event. A fitting finale for the outgoing executive committee.
Now for next year. The plannig has already begun... Dates in your diary please...
AKMA-UK Daventry 2017 We had some great fun, yet again at our annual meeting
Kudos to all the proud Kottayam Medicos for keeping the 'spirits' up Jimikkikkammal, Senorita......AKMA rocked Friday meet was fanatabulous... Not to mention the mouth-watering food on both days And a good venue
We moved on to a new venue, driven by the positive feedback from the previous two events. Bigger and better venue in many respects. The food was great, the entertainment smashing...
And we had an additional meeting on Friday, well attended for the relatively small number of Kottayam alumni in the UK
Stoke-on-Trent hosted the second consecutive meeting this year, building on the success and strength of the previous year. Once again, the event brought the entire alumni together to make it a resounding success. The unexpectedly strong attendance this year, almost double the previous year, meant that the fairly large hotel and its many halls were somewhat cramped.
But, most importantly, everyone had great fun!!
The Stoke Malayali Doctors Association surpassed the expectations from last year by providing the delightfully novel Whisky Trail and Whisky tasting session with more than 25 renowned Whisky brands on display.
AKMA UK 2015 Stoke on Trent
Fun & camaraderie
The 2015 annual meeting was a memorable event where we recreated the fun and frolic that we cherish from our college days enjoyed by alumni as well as their family. The entertainment, the food and of course the inevitable precious nectar breathed life into the meeting...
